Anderson Dock in Ephraim is probably my favorite place to photograph a sunset in all of Door County, Wisconsin. This property makes for such a great subject for a photo. The rocks, water, and view of Eagle Harbor add great interest to photos taken here as well.
I’ve photographed here many, many times and have a lot of photos of this place that I am very proud of. (I’ve photographed many family sessions here as well!) Some of the photos are similar to each other in terms of composition, but I try to get something a little different each time. Plus, different weather conditions help give every trip here its own unique charm.
Anderson Dock is always a popular spot for Door County visitors too. During the summer months, on a nice evening at sunset you will see this place full of people. Some will just walk around, some will paint their names on the wall so they can come back to it on future visits, some will fish, and nearly all will take a picture or two.
The most recognizable thing about Anderson Dock is the painting on the walls that I mentioned. It’s actually encouraged to do! The story behind that, as I understand it, is that in the past Anderson Dock was a landing point for passenger ships. Whenever a visitor arrived, there was a board or something that they would write their names on so family and friends who were expecting them would know that they had arrived. Over time, I guess the writing spilled on to the building itself and now that the dock is no longer a port for arriving ships, visitors have kept the tradition alive.
Here is a little collection of some of my favorite photos that I have taken at Anderson Dock in Ephraim, Door County, Wisconsin.
