The Tall Ships Festival made it’s way back to Northeast Wisconsin this week.  On Monday, they arrived in my hometown of Sturgeon Bay and I was sure to get out and photograph them.  I always enjoy watching these ships come in.  Being on the shore of Lake Michigan, we see a lot of marine traffic from pleasure craft all summer to shipping freighters in the winter, but tall ships are a little more rare.  So when 9 of them come it at once, it’s definitely an event!

I positioned myself at the end of the Old Train Bridge to get a view of them as they came in to the downtown area.  I grabbed a few photos of the Picton Castle and others before walking to the Oregon Street bridge to get a shot of the Price of Baltimore and Santa Maria go through the Michigan Street “Steel Bridge.”

Later that evening, I went to check out all the ships as they were docked around town.  I photographed the ships with a stunning sunset and beautiful twilight.

Early the next morning, I got up early to get some sunrise photos of the ships before they departed through the canal on their way to Algoma.  I even sent the drone up for some photos and video.

Here are some of my favorite photos from the Tall Ships Wisconsin 2019 festival.
