Choosing a wedding venue is actually a super important decision.  This is where you will be enjoying the biggest day of your life!  You may have thought about how to choose a wedding venue.  Well I’m here to help!  Here are 4 things you may want to consider when choosing where to hold your wedding.

1. Is the venue a sentimental place for you?

One of the best things about planning a wedding is including sentimental values in your day.  So if you have someplace that is meaningful for you or your fiance, why not have your wedding there?

If you have a park that is special to you, a church that you grew up going to, or even a destination you absolutely love (such as Door County 🙂 ) then you should totally have your wedding there!  When my wife and I were married, we chose to have our ceremony at a nature preserve that is special to my family.  It was very meaningful to me that we were able to celebrate our ceremony there.

2. Is the venue big enough?

You also need to look at whether or not the venue will be large enough to accommodate all your guests.  If you are having a small wedding then you won’t need to worry about the size of a venue.  However, if you have a few hundred people on your guest list then you need to choose a venue that is capable of seating everyone.

3.  Will the venue have good photo ops?

Of course a photographer will want good photo ops, but so will you!  This is your wedding day and you are going to want some epic photos with gorgeous backgrounds for your big day!  So you can look at what the venue provides for photo ops.  If there is a nice wooded area, a waterfront, or beautiful architecture then you are bound to have some great photos.

If the venue doesn’t have good photo ops, no big deal!  You can always visit nearby locations for photos.  I have photographed many weddings where the couple and their wedding party hopped in a bus to travel around to some cool photo locations.  That’s a great way to get some awesome photos before rejoining your guests at the reception.

4.  What is included?

Not all wedding venues, especially reception venue, are alike in what they include.  Some venues will provide all the tables, linens, silverware, catering, etc.  This is really nice because you won’t have to worry about all that.

Other venues, only include the space.  Then it’s up to you to book everything else from the caterer, tents, tables, chairs, and even staff.  There’s absolutely nothing wrong with venues that do this.  I’ve worked with some great venues that only offer the space rental.  I just want you to be aware of what you will have to plan for.
